DMDK founder-leader and acclaimed Tamil actor, Vijayakanth, passed away at the age of 71 in Chennai, due to complications arising from a COVID-19 infection diagnosed on Thursday.
As a mark of public respect, Vijayakanth's mortal remains will be taken from the Koyambedu office to Island ground, Anna Salai, allowing supporters and fans to pay their last respects between 6 am and 1 pm on Friday (December 29). Subsequently, the remains will return to the Koyambedu office, where the last rites are scheduled to be held at the DMDK office by 4.45 pm.
MDMK general secretary Vaiko and actor Sathyaraj were among those who paid tribute to the late DMDK chief Captain Vijayakanth. The veteran actor-politician had faced a recent health setback, leading to his admission to MIOT Hospital in Chennai in November.
Suffering from persistent coughing and throat pain, Vijayakanth underwent a 14-day observation period. Widely recognized as 'Captain,' his legacy includes a successful career in the Tamil film industry, starring in 154 movies, and pivotal roles in both the Nadigar Sangam (South Indian Artists' Association) and as a two-time member of the Legislative Assembly, representing Virudhachalam and Rishivandiyam constituencies.
